March 15, 1872 --- May 15, 1966

Amy Louise Donly was born March 15, 1872 at State Center, Iowa. She was the daughter of Eugene M. Scott and Frances Easton Scott. The family moved to Eagle Grove when Amy was 9 years of age. She arrived in Eagle Grove on the first train carrying passengers north from Ames. Years later when the last passenger train was making its run she rode it from Webster City to Eagle Grove. When the family arrived in Eagle Grove the new town was in its infancy. Her father became its first mayor. She attended the Eagle Grove schools which went only through the 11th grade. She then attended normal school at what today is State College of Iowa at Cedar Falls.

She taught in the rural schools of Wright County prior to her marriage to Porter S. Donly on May 8, 1898 at Eagle Grove.

Mrs. Donly passed away Sunday, May 15, 1966 at Ft. Dodge, at the age of 94. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Methodist Church of Eagle Grove and a member emeritus of the Eagle Grove Equality Club.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Hugh Donly (1963) and by a sister, Mrs. Fern Southwell. Surviving her are two daughters, Clarice, who is Mrs. T. A. Gardner of Denver, Colorado and Mary, Mrs. Evert McGrath of Eagle Grove, two nieces, Mrs. Howard Hughes of Ft. Dodge and Mrs. Lester High of Rippey, Ia. There are 5 surviving grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, May 17, 1966 at 2 p.m. at Sandvig's Funeral Home, with internment at Rose Hill cemetery.
