Mary Dinsdale was born in Yorkshire, near Leeds, England, October 7, 1844. She came to Dorwood, Canada, with her parents when she was but six months of age. She grew to womanhood on a farm at this place. On Sept. 29, 1862 she was united in marriage to Robert Fothergill. Two years later they came to Tama county, Ia., where they bought a farm and lived upon it until April, 1882, when they moved to Eagle Grove. Mr. Fothergill died Feb. 17, 1894. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Fothergill, four of whom survive her. They are Mrs. Mary Carlton of Chicago and Mrs. Hattie Mitchell, Mrs. Mina Frey and L. D. Fothergill of Eagle Grove. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Alice Nicoll of Cedar Rapids, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In 1886, during the pastorate of Rev. C. B. Winter, she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in which she has continued a faithful member and a sincere Christian. She always attended when she could and was a constant supporter of the church. Her memory will be held dear by those who knew her best. She was a good mother and an example to those about her whose Christian example will be reserved as one of the priceless heritages of earth.

She passed away at her home on South Commercial Ave. on Thursday, April 7, 1927, at the age of 82 years and six months.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Sunday. The sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. W. G. Muhleman, from the text found in, II Tim. 4:6. Internment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
