Jack M. Smith was born March 6, 1927, in Rockford, Iowa. At one time, he attended school and was a resident of Goldfield. After World War II, he lived in Eagle Grove before going to Korea. He was a veteran of both the United Stales Army and Navy. He served during World War II with the Navy and Korea with the Army. He retired from the Gallup-McKinley County Schools as the Industrial Arts Teacher. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, and Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth, the highest award volunteer scouters can earn. He was also a member of the Retired Teacher Organization and Disabled American Veterans.

Jack M. Smith died October. 14, 1995, at Rehoboth-McKinley Christian Hospital in Gallup, New Mexico. Survivors include his wife, Marian A. Smith of Gallup; children, Jeffrey A. Smith of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Jackie M. Smith of Mesa, Arizona, and Thomas E. Smith of Gallup, New Mexico; a brother, Edgar Logan of Lincoln, Illinois; and sisters, Shirley Singley of Lincoln, Illinois, and Loretta Luse of Hoyt Lake, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings. Funeral services were at 1 p.m., October 18, 1995, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Gallup, New Mexico, with the Reverend Ulric Pax, O. F. M., officiating. Burial was in the Garden of the Good Shepherd of the Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup, New Mexico. The Tamily requested that donations be made to the Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico 87114, or the New Mexico Heart Institute, 1001 Coal, S. E., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106. Rollie Mortuary of Gallup was in
charge of arrangements.
