Norman "Bud" Iehl was born on September 16, 1923, at Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was educated in Springfield, Illinois and Dows, Iowa. Following his schooling, he was employed with Toft Gravel in Dows. He entered the United States Marine Corp on November 10, 1942 at San Diego, California. He served during World War II with the 1st Marine Division and fought in the South Pacific at New Britain and Peleliu Island. He was wounded twice during his tour and was awarded two Purple Hearts for his heroism. Following his honorable discharge on April 29, 1945, at Great Lakes, Illinois, he returned to Dows and was united in marriage to Millie Babcock of Eagle Grove on December 28, 1945. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove where he was employed at Ryan's Barber Shop. He then went to work as a mechanic for Christensen Motors in Eagle Grove prior to his retirement in 1985 due to ill health. He entered Veterans Hospital in Des Moines on October 24, 1995. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Eagle Grove American Legion, 1st Marine Division, Disabled American Veterans and the Blind American Veterans of America.

Norman "Bud" Iehl died at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on November 1, 1995. He had attained the age of 72 years, 1 month and 15 days.

Survivors include his wife, Millie Iehl of Eagle Grove; son, Bruce Iehl of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Nancy McCollough and her husband Brian of Stafford, Virginia, and Cindy Denger and her husband Marion of Dows; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 6, 1995, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, with the Reverend Omar Pettersen officiating the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial with full military rites by ihe 1st Marine Division were held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home Ltd., Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
