Arleta M. Evans, age 96, of Iowa Falls and Dows passed away Saturday June 11, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church in Dows with Pastor Grant Woodley officiating. Burial will be in the Otis Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church in Dows. The family requests memorials be made in Arleta Evan’s name to Hospice Compassus or First Lutheran Church in Dows. Dugger Funeral Home, Dows, is in charge of arrangements. Arleta Mae, daughter of Charlie and Oca Katsch Lake, was born on July 7, 1919 on the farm near Buckeye. Arleta attended and graduated from Owasa High School. On August 12, 1939, Arleta was united into marriage with Don Evans. The couple was blessed with six children: Gary, Roger, Veda Mae, Edward, Charlotte, and Mark. They continued to farm until 1977. After retirement, they bought a motor home and traveled to all 50 states.
Arleta was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and making sure they always had plenty to eat. Arleta was the glue that held the family together.
Arleta is survived by her three children: Roger (Vipa) Evans of Chiangmai, Thailand, Charlotte (Mark) Riley of Clive, Mark (Cheri) Evans of Nevada, 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, sister Lois Terry of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and many numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, two sons: Edward and Gary, daughter Veda Mae, grandson Abraham Riley, two brothers, and two sisters.
