Prudence Reil, 97, of Eagle Grove, died Sunday, February 19, 2006 at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday February 25, 2006, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Paul Stone officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. She is survived by her children: Margaret Sundberg and her husband John of Eagle Grove; Pastor John Reil, and his wife Marsha, of Lompoc, Calif., four grandchildren: Mark Sundberg, of Eagle Grove; Jill Lindaman, and her husband David, of St. Paul, Minn.; Brandon Reil, and Robert Reil, both of Lompoc, Calif., three nephews, and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, and a brother, Robert Stoyles.

Prudence Reil was born April 3, 1908, the daughter of Floyd and Mabel (Tracy) Stoyles, in Elgin, Ill. She graduated from West High in Waterloo. She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell and later worked for Davidson's Department Store. Prudence married Fred Reil on October 11, 1931 in Waterloo. After Fred returned home from serving in the Army, the couple moved to Platteville, Wisc., where they operated a hotel. Later they moved to Strawberry Point to operate the Franklin Hotel. In 1950, Fred and Prudence moved to Eagle Grove and operated a men's clothing store where she worked for many years. They moved into their new store in 1962 and sold the store in 1973 to their friends and partners, Kenneth and Honey Spangler. After retirement, Fred and Prudence traveled to Arizona and California for many years. Fred passed away on December 23, 1993. Prudence continued to live in their home until June of 2003 when she moved to Rotary Ann South and then to Rotary Ann North in July of 2004. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, the Lois Circle, and the American Legion Auxiliary. The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
