Jane Tubbs, 73, of Humboldt, passed away April 14, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Alberta Ervin, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Jane Opheim, the daughter of Joe and Winifred (Tokheim) Opheim, was born April 13, 1943 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was raised at Thor, attended Thor elementary school, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the class of 1961. Following her education, Jane worked in the office of Superintendent of Schools for Eagle Grove and a law office in Fort Dodge. She was united in marriage to Norman Tubbs on April 10, 1966 at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church at Thor. The couple made their home on a farm west of Humboldt. In addition to raising her three children, Jane was employed by Farm Egg, Worthington Insurance, and the Farmers Home Administration. In 1975, the couple moved to Humboldt. For many years, Jane worked in the Office of Community Services in the Humboldt County Courthouse where she found great reward in helping many people in need.
Mr. Tubbs passed away in August of 2006 and Jane continued to maintain her home in Humboldt. Jane was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she served as a pianist and especially enjoyed playing for the Rutland Center. She was active in adult Sunday school, bible study, UMW, and the Worship Committee. She had served as the Past President of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. As a child she was active in 4H and in later years, she and Norman enjoyed card club, “Breakfast in the Park” group, Fourth of July family get-togethers, and 10 days spent at the Iowa State Fair every year. At the time of her death, Jane was an important part of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home where she served as greeter.
Above all, Jane loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jill and Tom Pliner of Clarksville, Jan and Glen Westling of Badger, and Aaron and Jen Tubbs of Hastings On The Hudson, NY; grandchildren, Sarah (Craig) Peters, Laura (Aaron) Chalstrom, Anne (Chris) Simpson,Jeffery Westling, Amber Westling, Casey Westling, Jacob Tubbs, and Katie Tubbs; great-grandchildren, Memphis, Colby, Jaxson, Riley, Lucas, Nathan, and Elliot; brother, Stephen and Linda Opheim of Fort Dodge; along with her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Norman.; and Grandson, Tylor.
