September 10, 1830 --- January 16, 1922

Aaron Tilton was born in Bolton, Canada, September 10, 1830 and died in the Old Soldiers' Home at Marshalltown, Iowa, January 16, 1922, at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 6 days.

He was united in marriage to Almira Reynolds August 28, 1856, who died In 1897. To this union one child was born, Mrs. W. J. Cotton, of this city. In 1898 he married Harriet E. Jondro, who died in 1913. Besides his daughter he leaves eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

He came to Eagle Grove in 1895, where he helped to build the Paine block and other business buildings of this city. For the past twenty years he has made his home at the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown, where he enjoyed the companionship of his comrades.

The following is a brief sketch of his army life. He enlisted in Co. 1, Fifteenth New York Engineers, September 3, 1864, at Malone. N. Y, and was discharged July 2, 1865, at Washington, D. C.

He has been a member of the Methodist church since early manhood. Funeral services were held in the parlors of the Eagle Grove Methodist church. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. G. Muhleman from the text found in Matt. 20:16. Two vocal solos were sung at the funeral by Mrs. Chase Cotton and Mrs. Fred Cotton. His six grandsons acted as pall bearers. The body was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery.
