March 4, 1877 --- August 10, 1925

Jennie Adelfina Mars was born in Sweden March 4, 1877. She came to America when she was a small girl and settled in Cambridge, Ill. Later she came to Iowa and settled in Fort Dodge, where she worked till the time of her marriage to Chris Rayne. One child, Lillian, was born to this union. Mr. Rayne died and Mrs. Rayne took up nursing. She followed this profession till her marriage to Geo. W. Newcomb in 1905, when they moved to the farm. They remained on the farm till a year ago, when because of Mrs. Newcomb's failing health, they moved to Eagle Grove, where they have since lived till the time of her death which occurred suddenly on the afternoon of August 10, 1925.

Mrs. Newcomb leaves to mourn her death her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Yoakam of Clarion, three brothers, Frank Mars of Boxholm, Ed and Henry Mars of Gowrie, her mother, Mrs. Nels Palm of Gowrie, her sister, Mrs. Nettie Johnson of Cambridge, Ill., and a granddaughter, Margaret Yoakam of Clarion.

Mrs. Newcomb was christened and confirmed in the State Lutheran church of Sweden, where she held her membership. She was an attendant at the Methodist church in Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held in the Eagle Grove Methodist church and the sermon was preached by the pastor, W. G. Muhleman. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
