M. GUNDERSON IS CLAIMED BY GRIM REAPER
Well Known Retired Farmer Had Been Resident of the County for More Than Fifty Years

Mathias Gunderson, resident of this community for the last fifty years, passed away Sunday, September 3, at the home of his son-in-law, K. Severson, of Clarion, at the age of seventy-six years.

Mathias Gunderson was born in Drammen, Norway, March 18, 1856, of parents Gunder Mathias and Andrine Gunderson. He was married to Julia Jenson, December 19, 1879, in the Tangen church at Drammen and they emigrated to America, arriving in Eagle Grove Jan. 2, 1882, settling on a farm four miles west of town, where they became active members of the Norway Lutheran congregation. This union was blessed with nine children of whom eight have preceded him in death. Mrs. Gunderson passed away six years ago.

He leaves to mourn his departure one daughter, Mrs. Hans Larson of Kanawha, and seventeen grandchildren and one brother, Gustav Gunderson of Eagle Grove. The deceased had been in failing health for the past year, but death, nevertheless, came suddenly.

Funeral services were held at the West Side Lutheran church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00. Rev. H. S. Fauske officiated, assisted by Rev. H. C. Holm. The choir rendered fitting selections. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery. Mr. Gunderson was a well-read layman and active in all church work. May God bless and comfort our bereaved friends.
