Laverne Bell, 80, of Woolstock, died Monday, May 9, 2016 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Laverne Charles Bell was born June 27, 1935 in Blairsburg, the son of Melvin and Mary Fowler Bell. He graduated from Goldfield High School in 1954. He married Clara Hansen on November 2, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Williams. He was a self-employed trucker and held various jobs over the years. He retired after 25 plus years from the Woolstock Coop.
Laverne is survived by his wife Clara of Woolstock; children, Laura (Mike) Runyan of Baxter, MN, Karen Bell of Woolstock, Diane (Craig) Bard of Eagle Grove, Beth (Bob) Johanns of Grundy Center, grandchildren, Barry (Tina) Campbell, Kate Runyan, Alyse (Ofo) Gomez, Christopher Runyan, Lindsay (Zach) Schlichtmann, Amber (Steve) Rick, Zoe Johanns, Piper Johanns; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (LeRoy) Schaumburg of Clarion, Mary Ann (Charles) Carney of San Marcos, CA; numerous nieces and nephews. Laverne was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lavonna Rifen, Bernard Bell, Donald Bell, Robert Bell and Carolyn Cartwright.
Laverne was a member of the United Methodist Church of Woolstock. He was volunteer fireman for the City of Woolstock, was on the City Council, was a member of the Hamilton County Saddle Club and a former member of the Moose. Laverne enjoyed watching professional bull riding, bowling but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
