Mildred Joan Johns, 91, died on Thursday, January 23, 1997 at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. Services were held on Thursday, January 30 at St John's United Church of Christ, Ackley, with Rev. Michael Dack officiating. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley. Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home in charge.

Mildred Johns was born on November 2, 1905 in Dows, Iowa to William and Adele Marie Niemeyer Butts, and has lived in Waterloo and Ackley. She was married to Walter K. Johns. She was a bookkeeper for 23 years at the Municipal Light and Power Co., in Ackley. She was also a salesperson for the bridal Department at New York Fashions in Waterloo and Franell Dress Shop in Clearwater, Florida. She was member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Largo. Florida; AARP, past national president of WA-TAN-YE Association in Waterloo and past president of the Ia Club in CLearwater. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Survivors include a stepson, Robert Johns of Miami, Florida; two cousins, Jaline Simpson of Boerne, Texas, and James Buchwald of Cedar Falls.
