February 17, 1871 --- October 2, 1891

Last Friday morning, about half past four o'clock, an appalling and distressing accident occurred in the I C. Ry yards at Iowa Falls, when W. W. Scott, a stepson of G. W. Vose, was instantly killed. It will probably remain a mystery as to the exact manner in which it happened, but it is thought that in some way he slipped and fell, tried to catch himself and struck his head on the draw-bar, causing instant death. His mangled remains were picked up and conveyed to the I. C. depot, where they were prepared for burial, and were forwarded here that night. The funeral took place Saturday, sympathizing friends following the remains to their last resting place in Rose Hill cemetery.

The unfortunate young man was born in Clinton county, Iowa, Feb. 17, 1871. His father died when he was two years old, and he was raised and supported by his mother until her second marriage, several years ago. The family moved here some time ago, and for two years Will worked for H. L. Pickering. Last June he commenced work here on the C. & N. W. road but left his place, and three weeks ago hired out to the I. C. Ry. company, only to meet his death. Besides his sorrowing mother and stepfather, he leaves one brother and a sister to mourn his untimely loss.

He was a young man of good habits and was respected by the entire community. The sincere sympathy of all is extended to the grief stricken family, who have sustained a great loss.
