1843 --- March 4, 1892

Mrs. Mary S. Holmes was freed from her sufferings by the hand of death last Friday, March 4th. She died in Des Moines where she had been living several years, of chronic catarrh of the stomach; sciatic rheumatism has also been a cause of intense suffering for at least a year. Every effort was exerted to cure her disease, but without avail. Mrs. Holmes will be remembered by those of our citizens who lived here eight and nine years ago, having been in business in this place at that time. She leaves two sons and one daughter, Frank G. Parkhurst, Miss Stella Parkhurst and a twelve year old son, Harold Holmes, to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were conducted in Des Moines and the remains were brought here Monday for interment in the Rose Hill cemetery. Many friends and members of the B. of L. E. met the relatives at the train and assisted in the burial services. The following friends acted as pall bearers: Frank Garvey, Will Trusty, John McDonald, F. G. Lindley, J. S. Keith and George Tallman. Mr. and Mrs. Parkhurst and Miss Stella have the sympathy of their large circle of friends in their bereavement.
