December 9, 1863 --- March 20, 1947

Dora Fisher, the eldest of 12 children of Albert and Catherine E. Crone Fisher, was born Dec. 9, 1863, at Bloomsburg, Pa. In 1865, her parents moved west locating on a farm in Champaign County, Ill., where she received her education. In 1881, the family again, moved west and settled on a farm near Clarion. Here she lived until Dec. 24, 1890 when she was married to W. C. Smith, who was at that time senator from this district.

To her home there came three sons: John Leslie, who died in infancy; William, who died at the age of 17, and Russel R. of Eagle Grove. Mr. Smith died Jan. 27, 1922. Mrs. Smith united with the church in early girlhood and became a member of Eagle Grove Methodist Church on July 7, 1892 under the ministry of the Rev. E. M. Glasgow. She was a girls Sunday School teacher, revered and loved by her pupils. She was a charter member of Class 16 and was president of the Ladles Aid during the period of the church building when there was unusual activity and responsibility. She was a member of the official board of the church up to the time of her death. She was interested in every phase of the church life both local and general. She contributed generously to Morningside College, the pension fund, the Crusade for Christ, the Okoboji Youth Building Fund. Mrs. Smith established a trust fund of $1,000 three years ago for the future needs of the local church. She was an ardent worker in the W. C. T. U. and at one time entertained Carrie Nation in her home.

She was a great entertainer and her home was the meeting place of many dignitaries. Senator Cummings was a guest at the time of his speech for the laying of the corner stone of the public library. She loved the church and was so regular and frequent in her attendance that the old family horse always turned in at the Methodist Church when he went by. She was a member of the Equality Club for fifty years and a member of E.J. chapter of the P.E.O.

Her life was full of loving kindness, charities and beauty in service. She slipped over into the heavenly home the evening of March 20, at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 11 days.
