May 16, 1891 --- January 22, 1932

Mrs. Helena Mary Carson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Fiala, was born in Cresco, Neb., on May 16, 1891. In the fall of that year, she removed with her parents to Tama, Iowa, which was her home until 1908, when the family removed to Eagle Grove, Iowa. In 1911, she was graduated from the Eagle Grove high school. Until her marriage to Joseph Carson, on Nov. 29, 1913, she was engaged in teaching rural schools.

On Feb. 24, 1925, Mr. Carson passed away, leaving besides his widow, Mrs. Carson, two children Howard and Josephine who both survive their mother. One sister, Mrs. Gertrude Fiala Sullivan preceded her in death in July, 1927. After the death of Mr. Carson she was engaged again in school teaching until in the fall of 1929 when she entered the College of Education at Drake University that she might fit herself to become a teacher, in town schools, where she could the better provide for her son and daughter.

Last summer she was graduated from that institution. In the fall she became the teacher of a rural school east of Renwick. On Nov. 27, she entered the Methodist hospital at Des Moines for treatment. She returned to the home of her parents on Dec. 31, where she was lovingly cared for. After weeks of patient suffering, she passed into the larger life, Friday afternoon, Jan. 22.

Besides her parents and son and daughter, she leaves to mourn her passing, one sister, Mrs. John Reynolds and numerous other relatives. She was a member of the Congregational church at Eagle Grove for many years.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon, her pastor, the Rev. Albert S. Kilbourn officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill cemetery.

Out of town relatives here to attend the funeral were: Mrs. Frank Uchytel and son, Will Uchytel of Toledo, Mrs. Frank Zak, Frank Fiala of Tama, Wincel Fiala of Marshalltown, Mrs. Frank Ruble and son, Mrs. Julia Langerman of Buffalo Center, Olen Curtis of Swea City, Mrs. Chas. Kratoska of Ames, H. H. Carson of Kamrar, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bottorff of Webster City.
