Grant Winfield Heckert, the son of John Calvin and Amelia Phelps Heckert, was born at Algona, Iowa, June 13, 1868. For many years he resided at Newport, Kentucky, but for the past seven weeks he had been seriously ill at the home of his sister, Mrs. Jessie Rudy at Sioux City, where he passed away, Sunday evening, Oct. 24, 1937, his age being at the time of his death, 69 years, 4 months and 11 days. He never married. He leaves to mourn their loss, besides his sister, Mrs. Rudy and her daughter, Evelyn, another sister, Mrs. Hattie Schaffter and her daughters, Dorothy and Camilla of Poughkeepsie, N. Y., besides many friends in his home city, Newport, and at Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was employed. The funeral took place at the Wilson Funeral Home at 1:00 p. m., Tuesday, the Rev. A. S. Kilbourn officiating, with burial in Rose Hill cemetery.
