Northfield, Minnesota — Lois Selma Vevle, age 92 of Northfield was born March 4, 1924 the daughter of Reverend Carl and Myrtle (Strand) Vevle in Rowe, IL in the church parsonage. She was baptized in Illinois and at the age of 6 moved with her family to Wautoma, Wisconsin. Lois confirmed her faith at the Holden Lutheran Church. Lois grew up in Wautoma and graduated from high school in 1942. Following, she attended Oshkosh College and then transferred to St. Olaf College graduating with a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1946. Lois then worked in Minneapolis for Fairview Riverside Hospital and in 1948 went to work for NSP in Faribault. She retired in 1985 after 37 years in home service. She moved to Madison, Wisconsin for two years and then in 1987 Lois moved to Northfield.
During Lois' career, she kept very busy by being a board member of the United Way in Faribault as well as being a part of the Professional Women in Faribault and Faribault Chamber of Commerce. Lois was a charter member of the Evangelical Women's Roundtable in Minneapolis for many years. In her spare time Lois enjoyed reading, knitting and loved to travel. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Lois passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Care Center of the Northfield Retirement Community. Survivors include her brother Reverend Robert (and Mary) Vevle of Edina; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Hilda Vevle; Margie Eastwood and her husband David; and Norma Patterson and her husband Fred "Pat".
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 beginning at 2 PM at Northfield Retirement Community Chapel with the Reverend John Quam officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will be in the Eagle Grove Cemetery, Eagle Grove, IA. Memorials are preferred to the Northfield Retirement Community. Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home & Cremation, Northfield.
