Edith Josephine Cox, was born on December 9, 1906, at Holmes, the daughter of Halvor C. and Lena B. Tutland Hill. She died on Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 1980, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa, after a long illness. She attained the age of 73 years, 6 months and 29 days. She attended school in Eagle Grove and was confirmed in the East Side Lutheran Church. In July, 1924, she was united in marriage to Myron H. Cox of Eagle Grove. They made their home in Eagle Grove until 1949, when they moved to Champaign, Ill. After Mr. Cox's death in January of 1966, she moved back to Eagle Grove. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Martha Circle of the ALCW.

She is survived by her son, Richard D. and his wife, Marjorie Cox of Urbana, Ill.; her granddaughter, Cindy, and her husband, Gary Early of Urbana, Ill.; her sisters, Mrs. Lottie Williams of Park Manor, Fort Dodge; Clara, Mrs. Walter Thorn of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Emma Johnson of Eagle Grove; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edith J. Cox, age 73, of Eagle Grove, were held on Friday, July 11,1980, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Marvin A. Berkeland officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Thursday.
