ROCKWELL, IA — LaVonne M. Colson, 96, of Rockwell, IA, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Shari Connelly and Dean Dykstra officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second St. S.E., Mason City, IA 50401.

LaVonne was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Dows, IA, the daughter of Richard and Emma (Johnson) Roline. She graduated from Dows High School in 1937. On Nov. 10, 1944, LaVonne was united in marriage to Lester M. Colson in Hampton, IA. The family lived in Waterloo until moving to the Rockwell area in the early 1960s. LaVonne was a farm wife who enjoyed reading, sewing, playing piano, tending to her flowers and gardening in her younger years. Faith was very important to LaVonne and she devoted a lot of time to her nondenominational membership.

LaVonne is survived by four children: Roger Colson and wife Brenda of Rockwell, Marilyn Christian and husband Don of Eminence, MO, Janice Ramirez and husband Frank of Mason City, and Marcia Colson of Clear Lake, IA; seven grandchildren: Tanya Deets, Jamie Hirsch and husband Brian Thoe, Travis Colson and wife Kristina, Jesse Colson, Amy Colson, Kary Nieuwenhuis and wife Barb, and Nick Nieuwenhuis and wife Michelle; six great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Marissa, Lily, Lukas, Briar and Brice. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2003; one brother: Ray Roline; and two sisters: Margie Roline and Vera Mae Myer.

LaVonne's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Hospice of North Iowa for their excellent and compassionate care. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, Mason City, Iowa.
