J Kent Withers was born February 7th, 1914 and died July 30, 1921. He was therefore at the time of his death seven years, five months, and twenty-three days old. He was born in Loogootee, Ind. and moved with his parents to Eagle Grove March 2, 1915. He attended district school when the family lived on the Smith farm and our public school when the family moved into town. Kent was one of a family of ten children. One Fleeta, a sister, preceded him to the other world, dying in infancy. The living children all of whom were present at the funeral, are: Wm. Hall Withers, Mrs. Mary Gail Hunsucker, Mrs. Anna Gay Lamfers, Frank Todd Withers, Roy Ford Withers, Clifford Wayne Withers and Leona and Hilda Withers.

Kent was a very attractive boy, bright and interesting in many ways. He was the joy of the family, and especially of his father. All who know him were attracted to him and loved him. The funeral was largely attended, the large crowd more than filling the house. Rev. Tyler spoke feelingly of the heavy bereavement that had so suddenly come to the Withers family and expressed the deep sympathy felt by all. His words of comfort were well chosen and tenderly expressed. The family feel very grateful for Rev. Tyler's kind attentions and beautiful words at the funeral. Interment was at Rose Hill cemetery.
