July 1, 1856 ---- June 3, 1932

Charlotte Smith was born in Lincolnshire, England, July 1, 1856 and died at her home in Eagle Grove on June 3, 1932. She came to the United States with her parents in 1873 and settled at Boone, Iowa. She was married to John Robinson on March 27, 1875, and made their home at Boone until 1897 when they came to Eagle Grove where they have since resided. To them were born ten children, five sons and five daughters. Three have preceded her in to that better land, Mrs. Sarah Rowley, Chas. Robinson and Mrs. Charlotte Inman. Her beloved companion preceded her by nine years, two months, and twenty days.

Besides her own children she has mothered two children from childhood, Mrs. Lillian Borwey and Herbert Robinson, children of her husband's brother. She has loved and cared for these even as her own and has proven herself a wonderful mother. The Robinson home was an ideal Christian home. Christ was the center of it. God's will was supreme. Prayer and Bible study had a prominent part in the program of every day. The church was to her the house of God and the Gateway to Heaven. Though in recent years she could not hear a sound, she received a great blessing from the services of the sanctuary. If health permitted, she felt she must be in her place in the service of the church. Following this conviction she ventured out to the service one evening in February on the icy walk and when returning home slipped and broke her hip. During the days that followed she showed a remarkable courage and trust in the Heavenly Father. To the very end she was resigned to the Will of the Father. She said she was ready to go Home, but that if God wanted her to stay, He would make her well again. She made a wonderful recovery for a time, so that she was about the house in her own home, but it was not for her to stay. Gradually her strength slipped from her and she slipped away to be with Jesus and the dear ones gone before. Patiently and faithfully life's race has been run and she awaits the crown of the victor.

Mrs. Robinson has been a life long member of the Methodist church and by her loving sacrifice and devotion has endeared herself to all who knew her. One of God's saints has left us to occupy one of His mansions fair. She will be greatly missed among us but we believe her memory will be a continual blessing and benediction to all who knew her.

She leaves in her going her bereaved children: Geo. Robinson of Ogden, Utah; Mrs. Anna Rees, of Casper, Wyoming; Will Robinson of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Edith Jepson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Albert Robinson of Eagle Grove, Alfred Robinson of Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Ruth Walrod of Eagle Grove. Also Mrs. Lillian Borwey of Eagle Grove and Herbert Robinson of Sutherland, whom she has tenderly cared for and raised even as her own. Besides the immediate family she is survived by two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Martha Wilson of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Mary Fulton of Los Angeles, Calif., Chas. Smith of Boone, Henry Smith of Chicago, Ill., and Geo. Smith whose address is unknown. Two sisters preceded her in death. She will also be greatly missed by twenty-nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and a host of neighbors and friends.

Truly may we say of her as in the great hymn of the church:

"Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfare's past;
The battle's fought,
The race is won.
And thou art crowned at last.
"O happy, happy soul!
In ecstasies of praise.
Long as eternal ages roll,
Thou seest thy Saviour's face."

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. W. G. Muhleman, Mrs. Robinson's former pastor, assisted by Rev. Breaw. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
