Eugene Edwin Vaudt was born April 2, 1927, in Whittemore, Iowa, son of Walter and Lorena (Wehrspan) Vaudt. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whittemore and graduated from Whittemore High School. Gene served in the Navy during WWII. Gene married Caroline Pauline Hintz on April 11, 1948, at Lotts Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Lotts Creek area. She preceded him in death on May 23, 1997. Gene was a past Elder and Trustee at Immanuel Lutheran Church and he was a 50 year member of Kerr- Hammserstrom American Legion Post # 577 in Lone Rock. On January 27, 2001, Eugene married Sylvia Cody at St. John's Lutheran Church, Depew. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, and woodworking. He also enjoyed sports, fishing, reading, and gardening.

Eugene E. Vaudt died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at his farm in rural Fenton, at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife Sylvia of Fenton; four children, Diane Munch and her husband Jack, Fenton, Kent Vaudt and his wife Rosy, Valparaiso, IN, Angela Cook and her husband Steve, Algona, and Michele Evans and her husband Robert, Mechanicsburg, PA; two step-children, Dwayne Cody and his fiancé Ginny Simich, Vancouver, WA, and Carol Brott and her husband John, Clarion; 12 grandchildren, Krista, Michael, Amber, Joshua, Thaddeus, Aphton, Clayton, Gabrielle, Andrew, Caroline, Matthew, and Brady; five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Brooke, Ali, Tate, and Colt; three sisters, Phyllis Greenwood and her husband Charles, West Des Moines, Jeanette Maahs, Humboldt, and Ann Woods and her husband Warren, Humboldt; two brothers, Calvin Vaudt and his wife Eunice, Fairmont, MN and Harlan Vaudt and his wife Vernita, Emmetsburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Caroline; a great-grandson, Jeremiah; and two sisters, Dawn Struecker and Sandy Morrow.
