October 12, 1906 --- November 19, 1992

Hilda Caroline Marie Rasmusson, age 86, of Sebeka, Minnesota, died on Thursday, November 19, 1992, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. Hilda was born to Magnus and Christina Nelson on October 12, 1906, in Clarion, Iowa, and at a very young age moved to Menahga, where she was raised and attended school. Upon completing school, Hilda was united in marriage to Herbert H. Schermerhorn on December 28, 1922, in Sebeka. Hilda and Herbert farmed until Herbert died on august 28, 1929. Hilda continued to farm and on June 1, 1931, was united in marriage to Melvin Rasmusson in Sebeka. Melvin died in July of 1970. Hilda lived her whole life on the farm. Hilda was a member of the Nimrod Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for several years. Hilda also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Nimrod Senior Citizens Center.

Hilda is survived by two daughters, Madelyn Siemsen and her husband Harold of Nimrod and Ethyren Lehner of Verndale; one son, Jerome Schermerhorn and his wife Amy of Nimrod; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Schermerhorn of Nimrod; one sister, Mae Jaakola of Perham; one brother, Magnus Nelson of Pine River; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one infant daughter, Mary Lenore; one son, Hubert Schermerhorn; one sister, Blenda Peterson; one son-in-law, Jerry Lehner; and one grandson, Bruce Schermerhorn.

Funeral services were held November 21 at the Nimrod Lutheran Church with Reverend mark Frusti officiating. Lolita Myers was the organist. Active casketbearers included Mark Schermerhorn, Alan Schermerhorn, Mitchel Schermerhorn, David Gilster, Michael Siemsen, and Scott Lehner. Interment was at West Lyons Cemetery. All arrangements were provided by Cardini-Behrens Funeral Homes of Sebeka and Menahga.
