Sondra Lea (Harmon) Hecox, passed peacefully into the Lord's hands on March 19, 2016. She was born in Clarion, Iowa to Irvin and Freda (Sandman) Harmon on August 28, 1936. She attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and the American Business Institute. She was married to Dale Hecox on June 7, 1956. She worked for the City of Iowa City until her husband completed his education. They then moved to Oak Park, Illinois where she worked as Director of Personnel for Sunbeam Corporation. She kept that position until her first daughter was born at which time she became a housewife. They moved to Elmhurst and then finally to Saint Charles in 1988.

Sondra loved the Republican party and she and her husband Dale came to represent all that was best about the Grand Old Party. Senators, Congressmen and political leaders all sought her counsel and approval. You knew that if you earned Sondra's support, the approval of the people would soon follow. Sondra was tireless Republican advocate and volunteer. She was an elected precinct committeewoman for Saint Charles Township. She served as secretary of the Kane County Republican Women's organization. She served at the Kane County Republican Headquarters for seven years helping to organize fund raising events, where her attention to detail and her ability to make every volunteer and voter feel special. She and her husband Dale continued to walk their neighborhood at election time when many people their age would have retired.

In 2004, Sondra and her husband were awarded President George W. Bush's Crystal Award for their volunteer efforts in Kane County. She was voted Kane County Republican of the year in 2004. In 2012, Sondra and Dale were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kane County Republican Party. She volunteered in many election campaigns on the federal, state and county level. Her enthusiasm engaged everyone who knew her.

Sondra loved gardening and landscaping and was a member of the Pottawatomie Garden Club participating in their shows and events.

Sondra is survived by her loving husband, Dale; two daughters, Sharon Grether of Austin, Texas and Susan Sherman of Frisco, Texas; and one granddaughter and three grandsons.

At Sondra's request, there was no wake and a private service was held in their hometown of Clarion, Iowa where Sondra has rejoined her beloved parents. Your prayers for her would be appreciated and contributions in her name can be made to the American Cancer Society. An opportunity for her many friends to gather to celebrate her life and memories will be announced in the near future.
