Donald Elder Baker was born March 3, 1912, the son of Guy and Mildred Zook Baker at Belmond. He received his education in the Belmond school system, and graduated from Belmond High School in 1930. He was united in marriage to Leona Johnson November 12, 1932, at the home of her parents, Tommy and Louise Johnson in rural Kanawha. He worked for Wright County road maintenance and Central States Electric in Belmond until he began farming from 1941 until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Donald Elder Baker died at his home from an extended illness December 24, 1991. He was 79 years, nine months and 21 days of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Duane. He is survived by his wife, Leona of Goldfield; one son, Donavon and his wife, Darlene, Kanawha; one daughter, Mrs. Dean (Jane Marie) Wallestad of Moorland; two brothers, Harold, Belmond, and Richard of Hampton; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Erickson of Belmond; four grandchildren, Dairon and Damon Baker, and Steven and Valoie Wallestad; and two greatgrandchildren, Derek Baker and Jaclyn Baker.

Funeral services were held December 27 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Lyle Peters, officiating at the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was in Norway Township Cemetery, Wright County. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
