THOR, IA - Steven "Smiley" Davis, 38, of Thor, passed away August 9, 2014 as the result of a motorcycle accident near Hardy. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Monday (today) at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Steven is survived by his parents, Virgil and Elaine Davis of Humboldt; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Jill Davis; and his nieces, Ellie and Tia all of Rockford, MN. His aunts, uncles, and nine cousins also survive him. His tremendous number of friends including Heather Nerem and her children will miss Smiley's fun loving personality. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Milford, Arlene, and Bertha Hoff, and Wayne and Anna Davis.

Steven Douglas Davis, the son of Virgil and Elaine (Hoff) Davis, was born August 28, 1975 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. He was raised on the family farm in Beaver Township where he was a member of the Norway Vikings 4-H club. He began his education at McDonough's preschool and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1994. While in high school, Steven worked for Christensen's "66", played football and ran track. He graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Transportation Logistics and Sports Management. Steven had been previously employed by Werner Trucking of Omaha and TMC of Des Moines as a dispatcher, and as a Federal Grain Inspector for Tischler Grain Sampling. He was currently employed by MS and Sons as a semi-driver and enjoyed his fellow employees and employer, Gordy Kirchhoff.

As a young boy, Steven was always going to grow up and play or coach for the Oakland Raiders. Since the Raiders never called him, he decided to share his talents with Team Harley Davidson. He loved to ride his Harleys, the Sturgis Rally, concerts, NASCAR racing, and just having fun. Steven was an avid fan of the Iowa State Cyclones.

HARDY - A Thor motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle accident over the weekend just south of Hardy. Steven Davis, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a press release from Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger, deputies were called to the scene a quarter of a mile south of Hardy at 2:04 a.m. Saturday after witnesses called saying there was a motorcycle in a ditch and an unresponsive male driver nearby. The accident is still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest Davis was northbound on Humboldt County Road P66. The motorcycle went off-road to the right and slid through the shoulder. After going into the ditch, the motorcycle overturned. Renwick Ambulance and Fire Department and the Humboldt County Medical Examiner's office also responded to the scene.
