June 23, 1913 ----- December 7, 1990

Funeral services for Virgil O. Hansell, 77, Livermore, were held Monday, Dec. 10, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore, with burial in the Union Cemetery, Humboldt. He died Friday, Dec. 7, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, following a lengthy illness. The Wilson Funeral Home of Livermore was in charge of the arrangements, with the Rev. Leo Riesberg officiating. Military graveside rites were performed by the Otto Field American Legion Post No. 415, Livermore.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Smith of Austin, TX, and Mary Hansen of Oakley, KS; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Hansell of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife Harlene, in 1975.

Virgil Hansell was born June 23, 1913 in Hardy. He attended schools in Livermore, graduating from the Livermore High School. He farmed in the Hardy area and in 1944 married Helene Fisher in San Francisco, CA. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate on a tanker in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to farming in the Livermore area. He later worked as a diesel mechanic for a road construction firm for a number of years and as a mechanic for Taylor Implement, Algona, where he later became the parts department manager. He retired in 1987. He was a pilot and served as assistant Boy Scoutmaster in Livermore. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
