Martha Chalmers, 93, of the Mayflower died Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Mayflower Health Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Denison Chapel at the Mayflower, with the Rev. Homer Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The daughter of David and Carrie Anderson Chalmers, she was born March 19, 1900, in Monmouth, Ill. The family moved to Washington, Iowa, and she graduated from Washington High School. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and earned her teaching certificate. She also attended Chicago Teachers college. Following her education she taught school in Knoxville, Eagle Grove, Mount Pleasant and Berwyn, Ill. She retired in 1968 and moved to the Mayflower here. She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, J.C. Peterson and Doris Doolittle.
