Elaine J. Rother, 80, formerly of Sheffield, Iowa, died on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. Graveside Service: 8:00 A.M. Thursday, September 15, 2011. Visitation: There will not be a visitation. Interment: Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield, Iowa. Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, is assisting Elaine's family in planning her services.

Elaine Joyce Rasmussen was born on January 31, 1931 at Alexander, Iowa, the daughter of Hans Christian & Edith Augusta (Pedersen) Rasmussen. She graduated from Sheffield High School in the class of 1949. Elaine was united in marriage to Henry Carl Nagel on December 16, 1950. She was a homemaker and also worked as a secretary in Henry's business, Nagel Construction and Redi-Mix in Sheffield. Later in life Elaine married Walter August Rother. They lived on Walter's farm near Latimer and later retired to Hampton. Following the death of Walter, Elaine moved to Tampa, Florida where she had resided for several years.

Elaine was a member of the Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, writing poems and corresponding by letter with her family and friends.

Elaine is survived by her 3 Daughters: Jennifer (Randy) Ciesielski of Hazleton, Julee Nagel of Tucson, Arizona & Jill Nagel of Tampa, Florida; Son: Jed Nagel of Pelham, Alabama; 9 Grandchildren & 7 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Henry on July 25, 1967; second husband, Walter; and a brother, Earl Rasmussen.
