Alexander, Iowa, Sept. 12 -- Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, September 10th, at the Alexander Reformed church, for Simon J. Stoffer, with Rev. B.T. VanderWoude, Sr., officiating. Internment was at the Alexander cemetery.
Simon John Stoffer was born January 13, 1890, in Belmond, to John Stoffer and Anna (nee Ruitter). He was one of ten children, eight brothers and one sister. On November 23, 1915, he was united in marriage to Gussie Blau. To this union seven children were born. M/Sgt. John Stoffer, in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Weisbaden, Germany; Mrs. L. T. Trafford, of Belmond; Mrs. U. C. Nolte, of Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico; Edward Stoffer, infant son who preceded him in death; Jerry Stoffer, of Ventura; Roger Stoffer, of Chicago; and Mrs. G. R. Lyon, of Findlay, Ohio.
Mr. Stoffer farmed in the vicinity of Alexander for twenty-three years, from 1915 to 1938, when the family moved to Alexander where he lived until his death. His sudden death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage and came at the age of sixty-six years.
He is survived by his wife, Gussie, three sons, three daughters, ten grandchildren, a score of nieces and nephews, and five brothers and one sister, Henry Stoffer, Joe Stoffer, of Sheffield, Corneil Stoffer, Engel Stoffer, of Alexander, George Stoffer of Oskaloosa, and Mrs. John Blau, of Alexander.
