Sister Kathleen Johnson, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 59, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse, Wis. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, March 30, 2009 in the Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis.

Survivors include her Franciscan Community; four brothers, Arthur and Linda Johnson, Schuyler, Nebraska; Edward Johnson, Vancouver, British Columbia, Kenneth and Robin Johnson, Odessa, Texas, and Norbert Johnson, Omaha; and three sisters, Julie Cole, Lincoln, Barbara Johnson, Cudahy, Wis., and Dorothy and Chris Mejstrik, Howells.

Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 912 Market St. La Crosse, WI.

Sister Kathleen Johnson, FSPA

Sister Kathleen Johnson, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 59, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse. Sister Kathleen was born Oct. 16, 1949, to Dennis and Evelyn (Stafford) Johnson in West Point, Neb. She entered the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, Manitowoc, Wis., in 1964 and transferred to the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in 2002. Sister Kathleen served as an elementary teacher for 16 years and a principal for three years in schools in California, Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin before becoming an associate professor of elementary and early
childhood education at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc in 1989. She was a director of religious education and principal at St. Theodora Parish, Albert Lea, Minn.; educational consultant for Education Services (TIES), Roseville, Minn.; assistant professor of education at Viterbo University, La Crosse; and worked with DLITE and FasTrack Blended Teacher Program at Bemidji State University, Golden Valley, Minn. After a medical leave, Sister Kathleen was asked to serve as a computer software technician for her FSPA community. She served in this capacity for 1½ years.

Sister Kathleen is survived by her Franciscan Community; four brothers: Arthur (Linda) Johnson of Schuyler, Neb., Edward Johnson of Vancouver, British Columbia, Kenneth (Robin) Johnson of Odessa, Texas, and Norbert Johnson of Omaha, Neb.; and three sisters, Julie Cole of Lincoln, Neb., Barbara Johnson of Cudahy, Wis., and Dorothy (Chris) Mejstrik of Howells, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother and infant sister.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday, March 29, when her body will be brought to St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Rev. Thomas O'Neill, chaplain at Viterbo University, will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 30, in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse. Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 912 Market St., La Crosse, WI 54601-4782.
