Olga Gennillia McCormick, the daughter of Osmund and Sadie (Weland) Amosson, was born on October 30, 1911, near Holmes, Iowa. Olga was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Goldfield High School. She also attended Iowa State Normal College for a short time. Olga did housework for several Eagle Grove families.
Olga married Walter McCormick on April 14, 1940, at her parents home northeast of Goldfield. Olga went to live in Seattle, Wash., while Walter served in the Army during W. W. II. She worked for an insurance company for two years. Walter and Olga made their home south of Eagle Grove in Troy Township and she lived there until 3 weeks ago when she went to Rotary Ann.
Olga was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W., Troy Culture Club, and was a charter member of the Friendship Club. She also enjoyed her garden. Walter and Olga wintered in Texas for 17 years.
Survivors include a sister, June Oren of Lynnwood, Wash., a cousin, Bill and Marcia Simpson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister-in-law, Marion Amosson of Eagle Grove; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Erickson and family and several nieces and nephews.,
Olga died on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 91. Her parents; husband, Walter in 1995; sister, Stella Matson; brother, Rudy, and infant brother, Donald, all preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 1, 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Reverend William E. Ballard officiating. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Visitation was held Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
