Ross E. Smith, the son of Elbert and Genevieve (Tieg) Smith, was born December 18, 1953, in Jewell, Iowa. As a young child, he moved to Iowa Falls, IA, with his family where he attended Iowa Falls Public Schools. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Marines Corp in 1973, where he served for 3 ½ years stateside with parts of his tenure spent at boot camp in California and later was stationed in Georgia. Upon returning to civilian life, Ross was employed in various jobs including Cecil King Construction of Iowa Falls for 6-7 years. Then Modern Hog where he built nursery decks and feeders. He later worked for Korbert in Klemme after making his home there. Ross eventually was employed for a time with Winnebago Industries in Forest City. In more recent years as his health declined, Ross greatly appreciated being in the presence of his siblings and their families in Klemme. He was a man who enjoyed solitude. Favorite past times included watching TV game shows and baseball. Early in life, he loved to take fishing excursions to locations around Iowa Falls, Alden, and Eldora. He was always up for a competitive but friendly game of Skippo or Yahtzee. He also had an ear for classic rock and country and oldies music of his generation.

He is survived by a brother, Jeff (Rhonda) Smith, Klemme, IA; sister, Cathy (Richard) O’ Neal, Iowa Falls, IA; nephews Brent Smith, Lone Tree, IA, and Nick Smith, Klemme, IA; Tristan Grimm and Aaron Grimm, Grundy Center, IA, nieces Amber Smith, Lone Tree, IA, Annie (Brian) Grimm, Grundy Center, IA, Courtney (Tom) Rexroat, Des Moines, IA, and Shannon Palmerschein, Grundy Center, IA.
