Marvin (Marv) C. Smith, age 87, of Rowan passed away at his home in Rowan on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Memorial services for Marv Smith will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the United Church of Rowan. Pastor Nancy Hoffmeister will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Andrew Whitten Post #159 of Rowan, Iowa. Visitation for Marvin C. Smith will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday February 17, 2016 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond and will continue for an hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Marvin Curtis, the son of James and Amanda Andrews Smith, was born on March 12, 1928 in Dows. He graduated from Rowan High School and took some agriculture classes at a community college. Marv was drafted into the Army. He served during the Korean Conflict. Marv was united in marriage to Chloe Hammond on June 20, 1952. The couple made their home in the Rowan area for many years. The couple was blessed with five children: Kerri, Linda, Carl, Dan, and Tim. When the kids graduated from high school, Marvin and Chloe went on a late life adventure. They moved to a ranch in the mountain country of Wyoming. Being a cattleman and rancher was Marv’s dream job. Before returning to Rowan in 2001, they lived and worked in Wyoming for eighteen years.
Marvin is survived by his children: Kerri Eivins, Linda (Scott) Lunning, Carl (Sharon), Dan “Boone”, Tim (DeAnne), grandchildren: Roslind (Doug) Gustafson, Debbie Bock, Riea (Earl) Searcy, Diane (Chris) Bock, Ben Morford, Joe Morford, sister-in-law Lila Smith and numerous other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Chloe, parents James and Amanda, 3 sisters: Alberta, Gail, Amah, 5 brothers: twin brother Marlyn, Ed, Bruce, Don, Floyd, and nephews Dick and Don Rink.
