Florence M. Daugaard, 80, rural Garretson, [South Dakota] died Wednesday, July 19, 1995, at her residence.
Florence Kennedy was born on Jan. 11, 1915, at Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel and Margaret Kennedy. She moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of four and grew up there. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1934. Florence attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1939 with her B.S. Degree in Education of the Deaf. She served her teaching internship in Romney, W.V., at the West Virginia School for the Deaf in 1939 – 1940. She then taught at the North Dakota School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, N.D., from 1940 to 1942. She then taught at Indiana School for the Deaf in Indianapolis for six months. From 1942 – 1945, she taught at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. In 1945, she moved to Vancouver, Wash., and taught at the Washington School for the Deaf until 1949.
Florence married Raymond Daugaard on July 9, 1950, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Dell Rapids. Florence worked at Augustana College from 1969 to 1977, when she retired. They continued to live on the farm until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. Florence traveled extensively and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. She was a member of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, Sioux Falls Association for the Deaf.....
