Robert Keith Jacobsen, 73, a resident of the Stratford Nursing & Rehab Center, Stratford, died Wednesday at the center. He had been a resident of the center since January of this year. The body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Stratford with the Rev. Jim Mead officiating. Disposition of the cremains will be at a later date.
He was born Dec. 19, 1929, in Parker, S.D., the son of Lawrence and Vadna (Schwinger) Jacobsen. He attended school in Brown's Valley, Minn. He serviced in the U.S. Army from December of 1947 to June of 1957 during the Korean conflict. Following military service, he worked at various construction jobs and his last job was working as a heavy equipment mechanic for the Chicago & North Western Railway for 16 years prior to his retirement. He lived in Eagle Grove, Madrid and then Stratford, where he had resided for the last 17 years. He married Norma J. Bergman in 1986 in Stratford. He was a member of the American Legion of Stratford and the V.F.W. in Boone and in Madrid. His hobbies included spending time at a cabin along the Des Moines River near Stratford that was owned by his wife's son. He also enjoyed collecting nutcrackers and the Charlie Weaver Bartender's statues.
Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Jacobsen of Le Claire; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Dennis Carico of Des Moines; one step-daughter, Terri Moore and her husband, Les, of Vinton; one step-son, Alan Kidd of Stratford; one grandson, Jacob Robert Carico; five step-grandchildren, Jason Kennedy, Nathan Kennedy, Catherine Jahns and Whitney and Alexa Moore; one step-great-granddaughter, Skyler Jahns; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Ruby Jacobsen of Fort Dodge and Gary and Joyce Jacobsen of New Jersey; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Loa Meyer of Bois D'arc, Mo., Sonya Middendorf of Sauk Center, Minn., and Gayle and Leo Honkomp of Great Falls, Mont.; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and one brother, Craig.
Memorials may be sent to the family at: PO Box 277, Stratford, Iowa 50249 and used at the discretion of the family. Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone, is in charge of arrangements.
