Francis J. "Perry " Mulligan, an Eastman Kodak Co. retiree and a charter member of St. Rita's Church, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Rochester General Hospital. He was 90. Mr. Mulligan was born Sept. 25, 1912, to Leo and Sarah Mulligan Perrin in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1929 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Eagle Grove, Iowa, Mr. Mulligan worked his way through Iowa State College by doing survey work in South Dakota. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in general engineering in 1937. He married Harriet Glow of South Dakota on Aug. 29, 1940, at Holy Rosary Church in Rochester, N.Y. The couple made their home in Rochester until 1950 when they moved to Webster. Mrs. Mulligan died in 1966.

Mr. Mulligan worked in the Hawk-Eye Plant for 41 years before retiring in 1977. A charter member of St. Rita's Church, he was instrumental in establishing an ecumenical relationship between St. Rita's and the Webster United Church of Christ. He was also noted for organizing annual visits of the newly confirmed members of the United Church of Christ with those from St. Rita's.

"He was a gentle man, both professional and compassionate, with a twinkle in his eye, " said Sister Judy Whalen. To show how grateful the parish was to Mr. Mulligan, he was named honorary "Man of the Year " about five years ago.

He had special devotion to St. Rita and after traveling to her birthplace in Italy, Mr. Mulligan annually set up a special display in her honor, Sister Whalen said.

Mr. Mulligan was also a longtime member and past president of the Webster Lions Club and had served in all its various offices. A past president of the Rochester Eye and Human Parts Bank, he also served as a life member and a past member of the board of directors of the Webster Museum. He was active in the Community Chest as well as with many community events and charities. He was a member of the Webster Chamber of Commerce and the Kodak Foreman's Club.

"He was an extremely loyal, very faith-filled, dear friend. We have a very special friend in heaven now, " said Sister Whalen.

Mr. Mulligan leaves his devoted daughter, Mary Jo Mulligan; son, Michael (Gail) Mulligan; three grandchildren; nephew and niece; and dear friend, Dana Peterson. The Rev. John T. Reif celebrated a memorial Mass at St. Rita's Church on Monday, June 9. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Willard H. Scott Funeral Home.
