March 23, 1923 ---- August 29, 1998

LaPORTE - Newton E. Scott, 75, LaPorte, Indiana died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 29, 1998) at LaPorte Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cutler Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Baines officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Scott was born March 23, 1923, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Clay and Mabel Wildman Scott. He married Janet Young, who survives. The couple had been married for 51 years.

Surviving are three sons, John M. (Maureen) Scott and William N. (Bonnie) Scott, both of LaPorte, and Mark A. (Robin) Scott of New Castle, Ind.; four grandsons, Brian, Daniel, Ian and David Scott; one granddaughter, Emeline; three sisters, Elsie de Montigny, Helena, Mont., Vivian Costa, Vineyard Haven, Mass., and Norma Long, Dentryville, Ind.; and three brothers, Donald Scott, Ocala, Fla., Dick Scott, Bloomington, Ind., and James Scott, Shoals, Ind. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Patterson and June Davis; and one brother, Bobby Scott.

Mr. Scott was an auto body repairman for Mitchell Chevrolet, Smith Chevrolet and Christy Chevrolet, all in LaPorte. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who received three Bronze Stars. He was co-founder, developer and owner of Turtle Lake Campgrounds in Beulah, Mich. Memorial contributions may be made to the LaPorte Wresting Club.
