Donald M. Lonning, 92, Upper Chichester resident; Sun Oil employee
Donald M. Lonning, 92, of the Ogden section of Upper Chichester, Sun Oil employee, died Nov. 8 at home. Born and raised in Eagle Grove, Iowa, he lived in Ogden for more than 50 years. Mr. Lonning was employed at Sun Oil Co. in Marcus Hook for more than 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Ogden Baptist Church and served as past president of the trustee board. He also oversaw the construction of the new church. He also was a former Sunday school teacher and was a member of the church choir. Mr. Lonning was a member of the Sun Oil Honor Club. He enjoyed golf, gardening and crossword puzzles. He served in the Army during World War II, where he earned a Purple Heart Medal.
Mr. Lonning was son of the late Jacob and Anna Nelson Lonning. He also was brother of the late Edmond Lonning, Stan Lonning, Arthur Lonning, Florence Lonning, Tonetta Martin and Kay Lonning. Survivors: Wife of 60 years, L. Virginia Feist Lonning; daughters, Judith K. Lonning and Susan F. Lonning, both at home, Karen V. McDowell of Kennett Square, Pa.; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church of Ogden, 2446 Mill Road, Boothwyn. Visitation: 10-11 a.m. at the church. Burial: Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills. Contributions: First Baptist Church of Ogden, 2446 Mill Road, Boothwyn, PA 19061. Arrangements: Pagano Funeral Home, Bethel.
