Martha Katherine Stevens passed away in Flagstaff Ariz. on July 20 1999. Martha was born Martha Mickelson in Eagle Grove, Iowa and came with her family to California at an early age. They lived in Burbank Calif. and the family attended the Burbank Foursquare Church where Martha and her sister Mary were active first in the young people's group and later in the church of the Foursquare gospel organization. Their brothers Bill and Paul attended the church also and Paul is still very active in religious music recording. Martha's sister Mary and her husband Harold Williams were missionaries to Brazil. Their brother Jean was a cinematographer with the Walt Disney Studios Universal studios and traveled all over the world in this capacity. Martha co-pastored several churches with her husband John Robert Stevens who passed away in 1982. Their churches were located in California Colorado Iowa Hawaii and other states. Prior to their pastoring they were evangelists and held meetings in many states. Martha was well-known for her beautiful contralto voice and she recorded an album of religious music entitled "When God Speaks" with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This album was produced directed and arranged by her brother Paul Mickelson. Martha loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe Asia and South America as well as the United States. Martha summered in Balboa Island every July with her grandchildren; and spent August in Hawaii with the other two grandchildren.
Martha was a resident at Leisure Village in Camarillo for 16 years where she was active in the community in civic political and church activities. Martha lived for the last three years in Sedona Ariz. amidst a gorgeous "red rock" view where she enjoyed shopping dining out and entertaining.
