October 22, 1942 ---- April 17, 2014

Michael Brian Bock, age 71, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 17th at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. A celebration of Michael's life will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with a time of gathering for family and friends at 1:00 PM until the time of services on Tuesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. A private family burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Michael was born to Vernon and Alice Bock on October 22nd, 1942 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1960. He then attended Pittsburg State College in Kansas. He was united in marriage with Juanita Birnbaum on April 4th, 1964 at Corpus Christi Church. They settled down in Fort Dodge to raise their family. Michael worked at the United States Post Office as a Postal Clerk for 42 years before his retirement in 2007. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading many novels. He was a lifelong fan of his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed anything that had to do with the game of baseball, including listening on his radio and watching his grandsons play. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and game shows, and spending time at the Community Tap after work, where he had many close friends. His quick wit and great sense of humor is what many will remember him for, and he could always bring a smile to the face of all whose path he crossed.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of Fort Dodge; three children: KC Hughes (Arley) of Fort Dodge, Mitchell G. Bock of Fort Dodge, and Greg Bock (Becca) of Sandusky, Ohio; three grandchildren: Brian Hughes of Fort Dodge and Hilton and Quinton Bock of Sandusky, Ohio; three sisters: Mary Jo Dencklau (Donnie) of Thor, Judy Dencklau of Amarillo, Texas, and June Sankey (Jerry) of Fort Dodge; Brother Charlie Bock (Joni) of Carroll, Iowa; Brother-In-Law Ed Birnbaum (Norma) of Otho; Sister In-Law Carol Birnbaum of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Ruth Kennedy (Dick) of Webster City, Nancy Moninghoff (John) of Olde Town, Florida, Verna Snell (Don) of Manson, and Pat Birnbaum of Fort Dodge; and a grandson, Michael Joseph Hughes of Fort Dodge. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
