Doratha Frances Tapper (Abbott)
May 11, 1917 --- January 1, 2016Doratha Frances Abbott was born in Bolivar, Missouri on May 11, 1917 to Richard Hobart Abbott and Lula Weiss Abbott. In 1917 they moved to Webster City, Iowa, where she got her education at Wall Lake Township #6 Country School and graduated from Clarion High School in 1936. She worked in Webster City as a seamstress and managed the Dutch and Evelyn Cafe for 3 years. She met Sye Tapper in 1940, and married him in 1941. He was farming so they moved to Alden, Iowa. They then bought a farm in Ackley, Iowa, where they worked side by side all the time, and she worked wherever she was needed. During this time they had a son, Raymond Tapper. Her husband Sye passed away in 1984, and Doratha moved to Iowa Falls at that time. She was always active in exercise program, and loved playing cards and dominoes. She was active in the Nutrition Site for the Senior Citizens. She always had a big garden and a lot of flowers out on the farm. Doratha and Sye started the Bell Tower ‘In Memory of Doratha & Sye Tapper.’ Doratha and Dan Brown finished the bell tower of the 1st Christian Church in Iowa Falls. She traveled extensively to Europe, Alaska, and all parts of the United States.
Doratha Frances Tapper was preceded in death by her parents: Hobart and Lula Abbott; her husband: Sye Tapper; and a brother: Richard Claud Abbott. She is survived by her son: Raymond Dean Tapper; 3 grandchildren: Jennifer Werner, Sye Tapper, and Casey Tapper; and 2 great-grandchildren; they all live in California.
