Donald Erick Rockow, 87, passed away peacefully May 25, 2013 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, Wisconsin. He was born May 30, 1925 in Dows, Iowa the son of Emma (Schroeder) & Erick Donald Rockow. Donald Served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Howard-Campbell-Ganske American Legion Post #179, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10331, Knights of Columbus and St. Boniface Catholic Church. After being honorably discharged from the Service, he worked in Almena on a Farm, then he trucked for Rupple, and later was a bartender at B&B, The Spot and Pete’s for most of his life. He liked to fish, hunt and the camaraderie with the boys at hunting camp. He also liked his T.V. while sleeping in his recliner. Don loved his birds, flowers and mostly proud of his manicured lawn.
Donald is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Stoeberl) Rockow, three sons, Eric “Rick” (Betty) Rockow of Chetek, WI, Steven (Debra) Rockow of Coon Rapids, MN, Michael (Jeanne) Rockow of Fall Creek, WI. He is also survived by one sister Maxine (Arden) Christianson of New Richmond, WI, former daughter-in-law Cindi Rockow Bloomquist of Cedar, MN, four grandchildren, Brock (Carol) Rockow of Chetek, WI, Kane (Becki) Rockow of Thorp, WI, Derek (Catherine) Rockow of Anoka, MN and Brittany (George) Tait of Eau Claire, WI and 9 Great-Grandchildren. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Linda Marie and Mary Ann Rockow, two brothers, Vernard Rockow and La Vern Rockow.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Chetek. Family and friends may gather for a visitation at church one hour prior to Mass. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Howard-Campbell-Ganske American Legion Post #179. The family would like to invite their guests to join them for luncheon and fellowship following the burial.
