Merlyn L. Rhoades, 83, of Urbandale [Iowa] passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, November 8, 2015. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, at Iles Funeral Home (Westover) from 2:00-3:00 pm, followed by a service at 3:00. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Merlyn, a devoted Hawkeyes' fan, was born in Dows, Iowa on April 29, 1932. An Army veteran, he served in Korea. He worked in the lumber trade and in retail at Menards until his retirement. His beloved Helen and he were married on September 14, 1971. He will be missed by his stepchildren Gail (Giorgio Asproni) Fagen of Cagliari, Italy and Michael (Diana) Fagen of Colfax; grandsons Robert and Matthew Fagen; 2 great granddaughters; and cousin Linda (Cecil) Buckner. Merlyn was preceded in death by his wife, Helen J. Rhoades, and his parent; Colen and Avis (Biondi) Rhoades.
