June 18, 1897 --- March 24, 1987

Louise Joan Krismer was born June 18, 1897, at Theilman, Minnesota, to Joseph and Anna (Hoffman) Krismer, the fifth of a family of seven children, and died March 24, 1987, in Highmore, South Dakota, at the age of 89 years, nine months and six days. Her family moved to Lake City, Minn., when she was very young and it was there she grew to womanhood. Following graduation from high school, she taught in a rural school in the Lake City area. The following year, she taught in a rural school near Clarion, Iowa.

At the close of the school term, she married Hugh Hartshorn on April 30, 1918. After their marriage, they lived on a farm in Iowa for two years. During this interval a daughter, Virginia, was born. She and her family then moved to a ranch in South Dakota, situated 20 miles south of Highmore. A son, Fred, and another daughter, Jane, completed the family. In 1957, Hugh died following a heart attack. She continued to live on the ranch with her son until 1972. At that time, failing health made it necessary for her to retire. She and Fred bought a home in Highmore, where they lived for the balance of her life.

Her love of antiques progressed from a hobby into a business she enjoyed for many years, both in her rural home and after moving into Highmore. She was an active member of the community, serving on the school board for several years and helping organize a very active PTA, of which she was a past president. She was also a member of Eastern Star and PEO.

Survivors include: her daughter, Virginia Bloomenrader, and her son, Fred, both of Highmore; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters, one brother and one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Jane) Drescher.
