December 26, 1889 ----- August 14, 1976

Eliseus (Ed) Askeland, 86, died Saturday morning at the Rotary Ann Home, Eagle Grove following a short illness. Funeral Services were held Monday afternoon at 2 pm at the Thor Lutheran Church in charge of Rev. Marlin Ingebritson, with burial in East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor. Kastler-Babcock-Deyoung was in charge. Mr. Askeland, forerly of Thor is survived by his wife, Edna; sons Elmer Askeland and Oscar Askeland, both of Fort Dodge; daughters, Mrs. Ben Wooster, Eagle Grove; Mrs. Lee Eaton, Denver, Colo, Mrs. Raymond Orsland, Thor, Mrs. Milton Welch, Denver, Colo; Mrs. Ed Edgerton, San Diego, Calif.; 26 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; brothers Albert and Severin both of Milford; Bert, Norway; and sister Anna Baerheim, Norway. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, George, two sisters, Ingeborg and Dorothea, and a brother, Jacob.

Mr. Askeland was born in Norway and attended school there. He came to USA in 1916. He married Edna Askland of Humboldt at Julesburg, Colo. in 1918 and they farmed in the Thor, Humboldt and Badger areas. They moved to Thor in 1960, and to the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove to make their home in 1973.

Eliseus Askeland was born December 26, 1889 at Tysver, Helgeson, Norway, the son of Jacob and Serena Hesthammer Askeland. He was educated in Norway, and came to America in 1916. He was united in marriage to Edna Askland of Humboldt at Julesburg, Colo, on February 2, 1918. The couple farmed near Humboldt, Badger and Thor before retiring in 1960 and moving to Thor. They came to the Rotary Ann Home in 1973. Mr. Askeland died at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home on Saturday morning, August 14, at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 18 days. He is survived by his wife; two sons: Elmer and Oscar, both from Fort Dodge; five daughters: Sarah (Mrs. Ben) Wooster, Eagle Grove; Helen (Mrs. Lee) Eaton, Denver, Colo.; Mary (Mrs. Raymond) Orsland, Thor; Agnes (Mrs. Milton) Welch, Denver, Colo.; Inez (Mrs. Ed) Edgerton, San Diego, Calif.; three brothers: Albert and Severin, both of Milford; Bert, Norway; a sister, Anna Baerheim, Norway; 26 grandchildren and 32 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, George, two sisters, Ingeborg and Dorothea, and a brother, Jacob.

He was a member of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held Monday, August 16, at 2 p.m. at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor. Rev. Marlin Ingebretson officiated and burial was in the East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor.
