August 2, 1922 --- July 6, 1985

Mildred Daisy Dyer Flarup was born in Cresco, Iowa, on August 2, 1922, to John William and Daisy Anna Doolittle Dyer. She achieved 62 years, 11 months and four days prior to her death on July 6, 1965, following a long illness. She spent her childhood in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School in 1940. She began her professional career at Standard Oil in Mason City, and later as a Service Representative for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company several years. She married Newton Earnest Flarup of Mason City on September 8, 1946. Newton preceded her in death in 1979. The Flarup family, including three daughters, moved to Eagle Grove in 1958. While a resident of Eagle Grove, Mildred was a participant in many community activities including Girl Scouts, Equality Club, Cecilian Music Club, AM Music Club, community chorus and theatre. She was a past ladies golf chairman with the Eagle Grove Country Club, and was very active in the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church as a choir member, circle member and Sunday school teacher. She also worked as a Community Resource Coordinator for the Eagle Grove Middle School, and at the Eagle Grove Public Library as an aide. Prior to her illness, she worked as a retail salesperson in Fort Dodge.

She is survived by three daughters: Cheryle and husband Richard Peterson of Littleton, Colo.; Marcia and husband Neil Burmeister of Fresno, Calif.; and Tamara J. Flarup of Madison, Wisc. She is also survived by a sister, Grace Ann Dyer Horman, and husband Elmer of Marshall, Mo. and a brother, Robert John Dyer, and wife, Betty of Salem, Ore. Her grandchildren are Kristjan and Justin Burmeister, and she is survived by three nieces and four nephews. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church choir, or to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church.
