Newton Ernest Flarup was born at Mason City on October 15, 1918, to Ernest and Carolyn Ewy Flarup. Mr. Flarup was an immigrant from Denmark. Newton's elementary and secondary schooling was at Mason City where he graduated from high school in 1936 and junior college in 1938. He enrolled in the MacPhail Music Conservatory at Minneapolis in 1939, for one year. On September 8, 1946, Newton was united in marriage with Mildred Daisey Dyer at the First Methodist Church, Mason City. He was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad at Mason City prior to moving to Eagle Grove in 1958, where he has been employed as a Traffic Manager at Boone Valley Cooperative Processing Association for the past 21 years.
Mr. Flarup was a veteran of the Armed Forces; a past member of the Eagle Grove Lions Club; The Federation of Musicians, Local 230 in Mason City; the Mason City Transportation Club; Eagle Grove Men's Chorus; United Methodist Church member and past choir director and member; and a leader and member of the Boy Scouts of America for many years.
Newton died Monday, Feb. 26, 1979 at his home in Eagle Grove at the age of 60. He was preceded in death by bis father. Survivors include his wife; three daughters: Cheryle of Muenster, Tex.; Tamara of Madison, Wis.; and Marcia (Mrs. Neil) Burmeister of Apple Valley, Minn.; two grandsons, Kristjan Aaron and Justin Cooper Burmeister; mother, Carolyn Flarup, and one sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Doyle) Boutell of Northwood.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb, 28, 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Rev. Don Callen officiated and burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
