Armstrong Woman Dies in New York
Armstrong, Ia. Feb. 1 – Word was received by R. E. Bunt Wednesday of the death of Miss Lavonia Grussing on Tuesday evening from an auto accident followed by double pneumonia. The body arrived here Monday and funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Burial was made here. Miss Grussing grew to womanhood here but has been located in New York for several years. She visited friends here last summer while visiting her mother, Mrs. Albertson at Woolstock. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Albertson, and one brother, DeWitt Grussing of Worthington, Minn.
Edith Lavonia Grussing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Albertson was born near Armstrong, May 18, 1903 and passed on to her reward Jan. 26, 1932 at the age of 28 years, 6 months and 8 days. Lavonia, as she was familiarly known by all of her friends and acquaintances attended the public school in Armstrong, then entered Estherville high school, graduating with the class of 1922. While in Armstrong she united with the Presbyterian church in the spring of 1915. She then went to Chicago where she attended the Burnham school of cosmeticians. She successfully fitted herself for her future career, which she followed in New York City for seven years up to the time of her death.
She leaves to mourn her early departure from this life, her mother and stepfather and a brother, Dewitt Grussing. Her father, Falkert Grussing preceded her in death at Armstrong in 1909.
Funeral services were held for her in the Riverside Memorial chapel in New York city Friday evening, which were largely attended by friends. She was fatally injured in an auto accident in New York. Double pneumonia followed. Funeral services were held Tuesday at one o'clock at the Methodist church in Armstrong, Ray Mitchell having charge. Burial was made in the Armstrong cemetery.

Word was received here last week by R.E. Bunt from Carl Albertson, telling of the death of Mrs. Albertson's daughter, Miss Lavonia Grussing, which occurred Tuesday [January 26, 1932] evening in New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Albertson, former Armstrong residents, but now of Woolstock, are in New York and will bring the remains here for burial. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Albertson and one brother, DeWitt Grussing, of Worthington, Minn.
